Targeted Listening

Most of my DX listening over the years has been done in a bandscan style where I simply tune up and down the dial to see what I find. The biggest problem with this approach is that it can create the impression that the SW broadcast bands are now inhabited almost exclusively by US religious organization and China, China, China, China, China.

Last week I made my first serious attempt at targeted listening where I decided on what I wanted to hear and then went about finding the best way to do that. The websites shortwaveschedule.com and short-wave.info were critical for this and the classic W6ELprop forecasting program was helpful. Some of my results, including loggings of a couple DXer programs, from the effort can be found in the latest ODXA YRX report.
